As you can see, I have fallen back to the 2016 theme. As for the more recent themes, WordPress is much more than just blogs these days, so the change in design is partly a reflection of that. Unfortunately, the recent provided-by-WordPress stock themes are not really useful as far as I can tell. They do not function well for a blog, nor do they work for a page-centric site. There isn’t even a good call-to-action that marketers like. It’s more of a “go away” unwelcome mat at someone’s front door. It ruins the “famous five minute install” as the end user must now spend at least a few minutes more finding a theme that actually shows content rather than a bird.
